MLB and Commissioner Selig have been strong and generous supporters of BGCA and America’s kids for nearly two decades. Since MLB named BGCA its official charity in 1997, they have been one of our finest partners and supporters. That includes donating a total of $10 million to support Healthy Lifestyles, one of our key outcome areas.
The league also does an incredible job raising awareness of Clubs. Every year, for instance, stars like David Ortiz and Prince Fielder appear in MLB public service announcements promoting Clubs. The PSAs are broadcast throughout baseball season, spreading our message to millions. During televised games, The BGCA logo is prominently featured behind home plate. Such media placements are invaluable and a major reason Boys & Girls Clubs are a top nonprofit brand.
The MLB All-Star Game is another great deal. Every year, thousands of Club kids receive free admission to the annual interactive baseball theme park known as All-Star FanFest. In addition, MLB and the team hosting the All-Star Game partner on a service project to benefit a local Club. Last year, for instance, MLB and the New York Mets donated $250,000 to help build a new Teen Center for the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens.
On behalf of all of our Boys & Girls Clubs, our thanks to Commissioner Selig and MLB for their extraordinary continued support.
