What a blast my family and I had during Day for Kids at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park. BGCA and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta teamed up to offer a Day for Kids based on the school “field days” we enjoyed so much as children.
Hundreds of fun-seeking locals came out to take part. Grownups embraced the opportunity to relive their childhood for a day, competing in classic games like the three-legged race, dodge ball, tugs of war and, my personal favorite, dizzy bat. It even had me feeling like a kid again.
Actual kids loved every bit of it, too, including my sons. From playing fun games like NFL Play 60 and soccer, to seeing the Oscar Mayer Weinermobile in person, they couldn’t get enough of the fun and games.
Of course, Clubs have been celebrating Day for Kids for more than a decade now. All September long, Clubs around the country will be hosting local Day for Kids events and encouraging adults to spend meaningful time with the young people in their lives.
Similar activities were offered last Saturday at Day for Kids in Los Angeles, where the crowd also enjoyed appearances by hip-hop rapper/singer Becky G and the L.A. Laker Girls. This coming Saturday, Day for Kids comes to New York, with Dallas-Fort Worth hosting its own event the following weekend.
So come on out. Make Day for Kids a day to remember your childhood and to advocate for all kids. After all, every kid deserves a happy childhood.
