“Every day is kid’s day.”
Kids are apt to hear this when they ask an adult why there’s no holiday for children like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.
At Boys & Girls Clubs of America, we believe kids do deserve their own special day. So in 2006, we created Boys & Girls Clubs Day for Kids. This year’s Day for Kids is tomorrow, Sept. 15. Our nearly 4,000 locations across the country and on U.S. military installations worldwide will host carnivals, picnics and similar events. It’s a great opportunity to experience the fun, safe, constructive environment of a Boys & Girls Club.
Each year, our Clubs serve some 4 million kids. Still, we all need to do more. Our country is at a crossroads. Right now, more than 1 in 5 kids live in poverty. And too many of our kids don’t graduate from high school. We need to reach more kids, more often.
But together we can meet these challenges. Our Formula for Impact gives our Clubs a great roadmap to ensure Club members achieve our priority outcomes of Academic Success, Good Character and Citizenship, and Healthy Lifestyles. It won’t be easy. But what worthwhile endeavor is? For us at Boys & Girls Clubs of America, nothing is more worthy than giving kids a chance to build a great future.
We check our smoke alarm batteries, replace the air-conditioner filter and change the oil every 3,000 miles. But sometimes we forget to check in and see how we're doing as parents and caregivers. So this Saturday, check yourself. Join the celebration of kids at the Boys & Girls Club in your community.
